Wiki Chaves is a musician that captures his world through instrumental pieces influenced by electronic, ambient and organic music, mainly using guitars and beats. His songs are inspired by his travels and experiences around the globe. Furthermore, they trace a sort of personal map that refers not only to places, but also to feelings anchored in moments, the open road, national parks and wild beaches. Wiki released his first solo album, Camino, in 2017. It is a blend of different sounds and styles including Argentine folklore, Andean, electronic and Californian music. In 2018, he released Andante, a guitar-driven work that mixes diverse influences from Latin American and electronic music. Solsticio, was conceived during a long backpacking trip around Asia and Oceania and came out in 2019. The album wanders between the superimposed borders of genre. One minute you’re beachside sipping tea in Sri Lanka. The next you’re riding a scooter through a bustling Balinese market, shoeless and sandy. His latest album, Raíz was released in July 2021. Its music is driven by soft riffs that develop organically and work as mantric loops, seasoned with deep reverbs that convey a retro vibe, and spatial backgrounds reminiscent of ambient music. The influences for the tracks on the album are drawn from diverse roots: dub’s signature sound, post-punk heavily chorused guitars, exotica rhythms, classical guitar arpeggios, and smooth jazz phrasing.
