Gülşah Erol is an Istanbul-based artist actively working as a composer, cellist, vocalist / interpreter in different styles and genres. Following her education at Menuhin Music Academy, Tibor Varga Music Academy, Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory, Anadolu University State Conservatory, and graduating from the Jazz Department of Bahçeşehir University; she developed a passion for avant-garde, jazz, rock and experimental performance, as well as film scoring. She has composed music for documentaries, and contributed as a cellist to several award-winning films, including Atlıkarınca (Merry-Go-Round) which has won the Radikal People’s Jury Award (2010) and Golden Tulip Award for Best Score (2011). She worked on the soundtrack of Gişe Memuru (Toll Booth) and Sarmaşık (Ivy), which was screened at Sundance and East End Festival to widespread acclaim in 2015. Outside of her film work, Gülşah has toured with well known orchestras across Europe, including ABSTRA (avant-garde jazz) and Gülşah Erol Band (modern jazz). Known for her different instrumentalist style, interpretation and composition; Gülşah Erol has expanded her horizons by working with musicians and groups with various musical styles in Turkey and Europe; including Peter Brotzmann, Joe Mcphee, Wolter Wierbos, Bart Maris, Jim Black, Selda Bağcan, Kenan Doğulu. Erol is following her first studio album “Scar” with “Jazz For My Little Cello” which she prepares to release from Kenan Doğulu’s label Doğulu Music in 2022.
