Ney & piano player, improviser & composer Christos Barbas is one of the most multifaceted and creative musicians coming from Greece, based in Barcelona. From the age of 7 he studied recorder, piano, harmony counterpoint and fugue. He studied Musicology and Ethnomusicology (Mmus) in Thessaloniki and London - SOAS. He focuses on the study of Ney and Sufi music while he performs in the most varied contexts from classical, traditional to free improvisation and jazz with the ney and piano. He composes extensively for dance, theater, cinema and has recorded 9 albums with original music. He collaborates in recordings and concerts with artists like Magnanimus Trio, Peppe Frana, Murat Aydemir, Ross Daly, Efrén López, Zohar Fresco, Maria Farantouri, Anja Lechner, Ramon Prats, Thomas Strønen, Björn Meyer, Evgenios Voulgaris, Tristan Driessens, Soolmaan Quartet, Dimitris Tasoudis, Giorgos Papaioannou, Milo Ke Mandarini, Miriam Encinas Laffitte, Nabil Naïr, etc participating in concerts worldwide participating in recordings with companies as AnMusic, Felmay and ECM Records. He teaches in M.W. Labyrinth in Crete and centers throughout Europe and is the artistic director of Labyrinth Catalunya.
