Perth based producer and DJ Clinton Stibbs alias ‘SubstrateC’ is an artist devoted to the complexity of ambient journey type techno and trance. Originally influenced by the captivating sounds of every kind of trance music he now sees himself drawn towards more ambient and melancholic sounds that instantly create a certain atmosphere and mood. Inspired by artists such as Tim Penner, John”OO”Fleming & Basil O’ Glue. Clint strives to produce underground music away from the masses. Being born too late to experience the “Golden Era”he aims to revive its classic progressive sound that he thinks has been lost in today’s mainstream music. Substrate C’ as a creative alter ego draws a line between Clint’s music and aspects of his personal life. ‘Substrate’ meaning ‘a raw underlying substance or layer’ or ‘an organic material of which an organism can live and grow’ signifies the deep, atmospheric, underground sound Clint produces. It also creates a connection to the small rural town in the Adelaide plains he was born and raised in. ‘C’simply stands for his first name ‘Clint’ but can also be heard as ‘sea’, together with ‘Sub’ ties to his former roles as an Electronics Technician in the marine environment. His occupation founded a great base for Clint to understand the fundamentals of electronic music profoundly and therefore he always strives for perfection. It is this ambition and his endless dedication to music production that makes the sound of ‘Substrate C’ professional and unique.
