Atlanta-based pop vocalist and rapper Don Jaye started building his career during the mid-2010s with cover versions uploaded to various social media platforms; many of them were also released independently. Among the contemporary hits he remade were Passenger's "Let Her Go" and Ed Sheeran's "Lego House," as well as a bunch of Justin Bieber songs, including "What Do You Mean," "Sorry," "Love Yourself," and Major Lazer's "Cold Water." In July 2016, Jaye released a low-key original track on which he rapped, "Way Up," which featured additional vocals from Breana Marin.
