Biography

Cicero Blake was a prominent figure in the Chicago soul scene, leaving an indelible mark on the genre. His musical journey began with the Golden Tones, a group that later evolved into the renowned Kool Gents. After parting ways with the group, Blake embarked on a solo career, recording for smaller Chicago labels such as Mar-V-Lus and Sack Records. While his early work went largely unrecognized at the time, it later found appreciation among Northern Soul enthusiasts. In 1967, Blake recorded "You Got Me Walking" and "A Woman Needs to Be Loved" for Brunswick Records. These tracks, shelved for two decades, were eventually released by Kent Records, earning him posthumous recognition for their soulful brilliance. Throughout his career, Blake managed to balance his passion for music with his role as a commissioner for the Maywood Park Districts. His contributions to Chicago soul have cemented his legacy as a beloved and respected artist within the community.
