Born Suliyat Modasola Abdusalam and known by her stage name Liya, this young Nigerian singer is taking the music scene by storm. With a love for music that began at the age of nine, Liya's sound blends R&B, pop, and soul, reflecting her Yoruba roots and the cultural influences that surround her. Liya's journey started in Lagos, where she was raised. In 2014, her move to llorin to pursue higher education marked the beginning of her professional music career. There, she participated in music discovery programs like llorin Idols, all the while honing her sound and drawing inspiration from legendary artists like Amy Winehouse, Angelique Kidjo, and Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. A pivotal moment came in 2020 when Liya met Nigerian superstar Davido. Impressed by her music Davido signed her as the first female artist on his DMW imprint. Her debut single on the label, Melo, released in December 2020, became a huge success, solidifying her place among Nigeria's rising stars. Liya's debut project, the EP titled "Alari," showcased her powerful vocals and songwriting talent. Liya's talent has garnered recognition beyond just critical acclaim. She's a two-time nominee at the prestigious Nigerian Headies Awards, a testament to her impact on the national music scene. Her artistry has even reached international audiences, culminating in a performance on the Global Spin stage at the Grammy Awards - a remarkable feat for this rising star.
