Kjetil Almenning has a Bachelor in Church Music from the State Academy of Music in Oslo, Norway and a Post Graduate Diploma from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden. Almenning was artistic leader and conductor for the vocal ensemble Ginnungagap, Vestoppland Chamber Choir, the Norwegian Youth Choir and the chamber choir Ensemble 96. The recording «Kind» was nominated for a GRAMMY in the category "Best Choral Performance" in 2011. Almenning won the international competition in choral conducting, the Eric Ericson Award, in 2009. Almenning started as Director of Music at Bergen Cathedral in 2009, and founded Bergen Cathedral Choir the same year. The choir released a CD Credo in 2015, a composer portrait by Trond H. F. Kverno. In 2012 Almenning founded Bergen kirkeautunnale, Festival of Church Music. Almenning is a guest conductor in projects involving The Norwegian Soloists Choir, Vocal Art, Edvard Grieg Choir, Arctic Philharmonic, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and more.
