Italian producer/guitarist Emilio Larocca created Slow Wave Sleep in Paris in 2015, blending a sci-fi story with experimental electronic music. The debut album, L'ultimo uomo, produced in Berlin in 2018, marked a shift toward vocal music, combining progressive rock and EDM. After returning to Italy in 2018, Emilio formed a band during the production of Chroma (Deluxe Edition), launching live performances at local clubs and festivals. The third acoustic album, Spiro nell'ecosistema, recorded with band members Gilberto, Stella, and Gabriele, included interactive music videos before the band’s dissolution just before the pandemic. During a four-year hiatus, Emilio refined his production skills, leading to releases such as Natura morta, the EP Points, Spiro Nell'Egosistema, and more. The music of Slow Wave Sleep is inspired by a sci-fi narrative, with each release revealing new details. The story begins in the world of archetypes, each representing something that exists in the human world, to maintain balance between the two realms. Rèfles, the archetype of human emotion, is imprisoned for becoming too big. It manages to escape by sending a fragment of itself to Earth, incarnated as Spiro. Over time, Spiro discovers the dark, malevolent nature of Rèfles and decides to stop it. SWS's lyrics explore themes of identity, the blurred lines between dreams and reality, and emotional catharsis through music, blending heartfelt storytelling with a dark, aesthetic edge.
