Canada’s global alchemists Eccodek, return with what might be their most fusion-rich release to date, ‘Mistake of the ear (The Peppermoth Variations)’ - a musical crossroads, drawing on the combined pedigree of Eccodek’s global dub and Peppermoth’s spacious, ambient cinematics. ‘Mistake...’ is a musical handshake between the two projects, with all 5 Eccodek studio albums represented in this re-envisioning. This is no remix album - these are reinventions. Andrew created Peppermoth out of his deep love of ambient, classical and dub music. Guided by his classical music upbringing and love of atmospherics, he recorded and released an impressive 4 albums in 5 years, working alongside US imprint Six Degrees Records. On ‘Mistake...’, Peppermoth’s patient and hypnotic treatments unfold beneath the voices of Eccodek’s guest singers, featuring production that combines the warm glow of acoustic instrumentation with the shape-shifting sparkle of synths and treatments. The project’s subtitle ‘The Peppermoth Variations’ takes a page from Andrew’s classical training, borrowing the popular concept of ‘theme and variations’ used by composers who's themes would develop in a series of variations. The ‘less is more’ approach allows us to fully inhabit the transcendant beauty of these voices from Mali, Turkey, Persia, India and Rwanda.
