CAMP 8 is the musical project of Melbourne based; New Zealand born songwriter Reuben Apirana. Moving to the Sunshine Coast, Queensland at just the age of two, Reuben’s parents, also working musicians, had him in piano lessons for as long as he can remember, and from there the spark of a young talent was ignited. While his childhood was more musical than most, it was at the age of 21 that CAMP 8 began crafting his own sound, writing impressively cinematic and orchestral sounds. A passionate writer in his own right, CAMP 8’s penchant for song writing, technique and processes shone through in his official debut single ‘Everything’ released in 2019. ‘Everything’ was premiered by Atwood Magazine, who praised the release, saying, “CAMP 8’s dark and stormy debut ‘Everything’ captures the weight of love through a rich, bittersweet, and hopelessly moving soundtrack to intimacy and connection.” After a string of follow-up singles and regular airplay on KCRW as well as triple j's Home and Hosed, 2020 has seen the arrival of ‘Hurt’, which was premiered by Clash Magazine, who said, “With a striking lead vocal from Reuben and the cushion of digital production, 'Hurt' feels immaculately executed. A sign of what's to come, CAMP 8 could grow to shape 2020 in a very distinct way.” Now the release of the debut EP ‘Everything’, CAMP 8 has upped the ante, releasing the striking new track ‘Happier’ and alternative versions of previously released ‘Everything’ and ‘Hurt’.
