Humble, versatile, ambitious, American, Artist/Songwriter TWB is known for combining the bop of future hip hop with the word play of boom bap. With influences ranging from Eminem, Notorious B.I.G, and Nas, to G-Eazy, Drake, and Polo G, TWB has pioneered a new sound, Gritty Pop. Born Steven James Krause Jr. in 1997, TWB, short for Typical White Boy, was born in the city of Roseville, Michigan. He was raised in a very small, country town, Memphis, an hour North of Detroit. While the hip hop presence in the rural area was lacking, TWB was determined to climb the uphill battle. Bouncing back and forth to Detroit, numerous times a week, in an effort to get respect and attention from home and the city, his ethic was what would stand out to most. Starting in 2015, with more than half of his discography being recorded at home, TWB grew efficient in crafting his own sound. Releasing numerous projects and singles, every week to every other week. Spending most of his time in his basement working from 2018 to 2019, 2020 had to be a breakout year. In early 2019, TWB met his in-house producers, Mavrik and CasperStem, which then helped take Gritty Pop further. Battling the Novel Coronavirus, 2020 was a set from Hell, but even the devil himself cannot stop the hustle. TWB had a successful beginning of the year, opening up for Royce Da 5’ 9”, and gaining more traction through numerous events in Detroit. Even though the live performances were put on hold, the craft in the studio lived.
