Minko Kalsbeek is a composer and sound designer from the Netherlands. While his friends played video games on their personal computers, Kalsbeek figured out he could create sounds and music with his. He hasn’t stopped since. From the Dutch BBS demo scene creating hardcore house, rave, ambient, and jungle music he was picked up by a Dutch house label. In high school, he discovered a love for films. Hanging with a group of film freaks he started exploring a diverse range from spaghetti westerns to obscure Japanese gangster films. It is here that his fascination with how music works under motion pictures was born. Kalsbeek had the chance to work on music at a game company start-up and some short films that did well on the international shorts festival circuit. Later, he moved on to production and trailer music. Origin Suite is Kalsbeek’s first solo release and is based on the Origin science fiction book series by writer Nathaniel Dean James. Music for Sleeping Boy was created last year in the week after his son was born. It’s a gift for his birthday, that lets you travel through multiple layers of ambient sound.
