Born from the Birth place of Hip-Hop and Raised in the Land of Funk, JayR Dion’ is destined for musical greatness. At the age of 5, his family moved from the Bronx, New York to Dayton, Ohio. In just a couple of years, JayR and his 4 siblings began to relocate to many different homes due to his parents separating, which forced him to grow up much faster than his peers. His approach to expressing these experiences is what sets him apart from other rappers. “Competing with rappers isn’t my thing. I want to provide people who listen to my music something they can relate to. I’m looking to elevate people by giving them a message that whatever you put your mind to it can happen with consistency and hard work,” said JayR. The love of music started at a young age for JayR. At just 4 years old, he would memorize lyrics from songs and recite them word for word to his family. Inspired by rap icons Jay-Z and Lil Wayne, he was also inspired by his older brother who was a local rapper at the time and at the age of fifteen he began to make his own music. With a laid back delivery and versatile flow, JayR is a true embodiment of his childhood upbringing. His musical approach is a reflection of the rich music culture of the Bronx and Dayton. JayR says, “I don’t just stick with one style. I hear music and create. I can give you something lyrical, a club banger or a song with a melodic R&B feeling.”
