Since their inception in Berlin around 2011, Saigon has released three full length albums and numerous smaller releases, changed their base to Stockholm and toured different parts of Europe a number of times, often being acknowledged for their vibrant and explosive live performances. In their recordings however, they have rather focused on experimentation and attentive melding of sound and melody, with results having been described as eclectic and imaginative. Inspired both lyrically and musically by their own experimental music and art scene, as well as the twists and turns of their personal day-to-day lives, their songs always turn out reflective accounts of their immediate surroundings, both bleak and full of color. The music is drawn from pop, noise-rock, post-punk and shoegaze, as well as drone, synth, noise, experimental and improvised musics. Always present is a contrast between emotional and mechanical expressions. Saigon have been described as “dystopian”, “aggressive”, “monotonous”, “dirty”, “an escalating destruction”, but also “simple, really”, “happiness”, “the future of music”, “unique”, and “hilarious”. The band is Siri Jennefelt, Oskar Carls, Linus Hillborg and Dennis Egberth.
