Wax Mathews (a.k.a. James Gray) is a house and techno producer from Victoria, B.C. He is one-half of the Victoria-based electronic music duo Garden City Disco (alongside bandmate Jordie Shier) and is a co-owner of the indie electronic record label Half Past Vibe Records (alongside Steven Bjornson.) Focusing on straightforward, dancefloor-oriented house music, Wax Mathews' signature sound makes liberal use of the Yamaha DX7 synthesizer, 909 drum samples, chopped-up edits and samples of classic tracks, and rolling ostinato basslines.
