We can’t change the world unless we change ourselves” were words once spoken by Biggie aka Notorious B.I.G. Words that have resonated with Big Baz and have shaped him into who he is today. Rapper Big Baz was born Basil Osabu on November 26th in Accra, Ghana. He came to the United States in the mid 80's at the age of 3 and settled with his family right in the heart of Harlem. Due to his chubby stature, he was nicknamed Big Baz by a few people who lived in his neighborhood. Throughout his childhood, Basil enjoyed listening to rap music crediting Biggie Smalls, Sade, Jay Z, Nas and KRS One, as some of his biggest influences. It wasn’t until he attended A. Philip Randolph high school that his love of rap music grew even more as he engaged in rap battles and freestyling in the hallways of the high school. As the years progressed, Big Baz continued to hone his skills and by the age of 21, he knew he was going to be destined for greatness. In 2003, Big Baz founded Mobvill…a rap group consisting of childhood friends as well as friends from around New York City. Together with Mobvill, Big Baz has performed at various showcases on his road to stardom. Some of their greatest hits include Mobsters, On the Road, Million Bucks and True Colors. This is only the beginning for Big Baz. But one day, he will inspire the next generation and encourage them to follow their dreams.
