Biography

Eleanor Turner is one of the most versatile harpists of her generation and a one-of-a-kind performer specialising in electro acoustic harp and composing. She has an impressive array of international prizes to her name, including First Prize in the European Harp Competition 2007 and Second Prize in the Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition 2011 in Amsterdam. The Times praised her “scrupulous attention to the harp’s rhythmic and dynamic possibilities” and Eleanor received rave reviews for her ballet score ‘The Bride of Flowers’ for Ballet Wales. Ellie is a member of successful contemporary folk band Ranagrí, 4 Girls 4 Harps, the Calvert-Turner Cello and Harp Duo and Tāla Tarang; tabla and harp with Mendi Singh. Eleanor started learning the harp at the age of 5, thanks to her Scottish mother loving music and being a fan of Harpo Marx. She studied at the Royal College of Music Junior Department every Saturday for 7 years with Daphne Boden and made her London concerto debut at the age of fifteen, with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields conducted by Daniel Harding and broadcast live on Classic Fm. Alison Nicholls then taught and inspired Eleanor in solo and chamber music for the next seven years. Eleanor also has a busy life in the studio, with highlights so far working with artists and producers Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead bassist and composer) and Voces8. Look out for collaborations with Ty, Cassell the Beatmaker, Subculture, Deacon and bassist Freemonk aka Chris Webb.
