Born to a Lebanese family in Appalachia, Alexandra is an artist full of contradictions. She brings blues to electronic and pop music. Her mezzo soprano voice has a rich lower register but also a haunting falsetto. It is powerful and extroverted while her lyrics reveal a battle with emotional introversion. Alexandra was first introduced to music by her grandmother--a rebellious spirit and jazz singer forced by her traditional parents to leave her 1930's jazz band. When Alexandra first showed the same knack for singing, her grandmother flooded her with the likes of Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holiday, and Lebanese icon Fairuz, all whom she credits for inspiration to this day.
