Biography

The first official taste of the newly formed Forenzics is a song co-created by Tim Finn & Eddie Rayner titled “Chances Are”. Tim & Eddie have been working away on a wide selection of new songs, many of which have origins in early Split Enz songs – the band they were integral members of when they formed in New Zealand nearly 50 years ago. Delving into the rich potpourri of sounds and ideas the early Enz songs contain, Tim and Eddie have sourced some ‘shades’ and ‘echoes’ to construct some of the new Forenzics songs. In the case of “Chances Are” – Enz trainspotters might hear a hint of “Spellbound” – a brilliant song by former Enz luminary Phil Judd first heard on their ‘Mental Notes’ album released in 1975. “I sent Eddie a garage band sketch” says Tim Finn...“and loved how he developed it. We live in different parts of Auckland, different strands of the isthmus, and avoid traveling across town as much as possible. So we were summoning memories and working blind throughout.” The song is one of many that comprise the ‘Shades and Echoes’ album due from Forenzics early in 2022. The recordings are a collection of songs and ideas Tim and Eddie conjured up using a combination of new and re-imagined words and music with some fine guest appearances including Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera. “I really love Phil Manzanera’s guitar on this one”, says Tim. “It’s slightly unhinged and multo expressivo!” All production was deftly handled by Eddie Rayner in his home studio.
