Life invariably changes over the course of ten years. However, love endures throughout any decade’s ebbs and flows. Jon Bryant finds himself at a full circle juncture both creatively and personally on his 2020 EP, Half Bad (Nettwerk). Not only does the Vancouver-based alternative singer and songwriter pick up the threads of formative influences such as R&B and folk, but he also reaches a new level of understanding and empathy evidenced in the songwriting. This decade would be nothing short of unbelievable for him. In between countless shows, he delivered four full-length albums, including Cult Classic in 2019. The latter refined his signature style as it detailed his brief experience and exit from NVXIM, which led to appearances on the podcast Stuff They Don’t Want You To Know and q: The Podcast From CBC RadioOne syndicated via NPR. Throughout 2019, Jon immersed himself in crafting Half Bad. This time around, he embraced a longstanding passion for R&B a la D’Angelo and nodded to inspirations as diverse as Kendrick Lamar and Van Morrison.
