MUGI, meaning "weapon" in Korean, is a Korean-American music collective that originated in 2010 when three artists, Steven Koh (WOBE), Mike Youk (SIIX), and Eugene Sim (yearofthepeople), met while attending college in Berkeley. Joined by Jonathan Kim (Jon Fledge), who they met through a shared club, the group initially focused on rap music, drawing inspiration from artists like Frank Ocean, Odd Future, Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, and A$AP Rocky. In 2016, Steven moved to Los Angeles and brought in his childhood friend Mark Kim (rorshak), leading to the official branding of MUGI. The group released their first album, "NOSHEEPSTRAIGHTWOLVES," in 2020, and in subsequent years welcomed Francisco Yun (ISCO) and solidified Jonathan's position as a permanent member. Their 2022 releases, "New World" and "New World Deluxe," showcased their quest for innovative and genre-bending music, rooted in nostalgia and driven by close friendships forged in childhood and college. Through each member's unique influences, MUGI creates their own space where they can pursue their limitless potential as artists and as musicians.
