Sometimes you look back on your decisions and aren’t happy with where you ended up and how you got there. That’s where ESKM found himself by the end of 2019. From his debut with Naiveté to Enigma, too much time was spent trying to be who he’s not. Despite graduating from Berklee College of Music in 2016, he never quite felt like he belonged in the music world. The then software engineer moved to Seoul hoping to jumpstart his singing career. Despite knowing how difficult it would be, he found himself feeling betrayed by the people he trusted. Not an uncommon story by any means, he used the experiences to light a new fire inside. 2020 is the year that ESKM will be who he is musically whether he fits the stereotypes or not (hint: he doesn’t). Telling him he doesn’t belong or he isn’t good enough, will simply add fuel to the fire. Great music often comes from painful experiences. Divergence is about finding the beauty that comes from that pain.
