Shakir Knight, known as Benny Cartier, is a Barbadian born rapper and songwriter, who is the founder of the independent label and music group known as Cartier Mob Sound. At an early age, Cartier developed an intense love for music. As he was growing up, he found himself greatly inspired by Hip-Hop, R&B and Dancehall as those were the most frequent genres being played in his grandmother's house where he spent the majority of his time. ​At the age of 9, Cartier began writing songs, poetry and stories, however, at the age of 15, he recorded his first rap song and has been focused mainly on music ever since. In 2016, he released his first project, an Extended Play (EP) Entitled Holy Beez. Since then he has followed up that release with singles and two other projects, one of which was a collaborative project with fellow Barbadian artist, Island Levvy.
