Biography

Alissa (Alisa Apreleva) was born in a small town in the post-Soviet Russian Southwest and inherited secrets of traditional singing directly from her kin. Versed as a classical pianist in her youth spent in Moscow and popular as an aspiring singer-songwriter, she moved across the Atlantic in 2004. In Seattle she studied film scoring with two-time Emmy-award winning composer Hummie Mann and began experimenting with minimalism, free improvisation and world music. Alissa recorded two solo albums – “Lucidus” (2011) and “About Love” (2014), – toured with the USA, Europe, Latin America and Russia with electroacoustic EthnoLoops set, shared stage and recorded with musicians and producers around the world, including Grammy-winning producer Javier Limón, Emmy-nominated producer Ishaan Chaabra, renowned flamenco singer José Mercé, world music celebrities Rhiannon, Binka Dobreva, Sergey Starostin, Christiane Karam, Juliana Svetlichnaya. In 2012 – 2018 Alissa mostly abandoned music scene, devoting her efforts to philanthropy and neuromusicology research, advocating for music therapy and developing rehabilitative vocal therapy for people affected by ALS. In 2019 Alissa made return to international music scene with the new program Trees Go On Growing, That’s All – a sum of explicit emotional statements steeped in melodic pop-rock, with lavish vocals soaring above exquisite brilliance of piano performance. The record is currently in the making, to be released in 2020.
