Cristóbal Rey Band was formed in Berlin, in May 2022 when the vocalist/charanguist Cristóbal Rey decided to put some songs together and record a new solo album. From 2018 the composer was focused on his Band Aquafaba, and he felt that was time to put in motion a new solo album where he could print a more intimate and personal journey. Rey found assistance in bassist Tomás Peralta to co-produce the album, who would be also in charge of recording and mixing it. And then the world-class musicians David Guy (drums) and Giacomo Cantarini (electric guitar), both coming from the jazz and rock scene of Berlin, would add the spices needed for this journey. As the album ended up being quite different from what Rey did until now, more progressive and psychedelic, he decided to call it Cristóbal Rey Band, as a way of drawing a line with his previous albums, but also giving credit to the contribution of each one in the band. Rey and Peralta are from Chile, Guy is half French half Danish, and Cantarini is Italian, which creates a nice mix (quite normal in Berlin) but as always in the end our common language is always music.
