Biography

Ban Summers is the soulful lo-fi indie project of Edward Perry (formerly of the boy i used to be.). After being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, chronic illness led to him concentrating on recording many songs in his flat in Portsmouth using just his laptop, guitar, microphone and occasionally an amp. This culminated in the debut self-titled Ban Summers album released on cassette and zine by Brutalist Records. The new album Bean Summers was again produced at home during the long period of isolation he has endured. Though at the start this experience was global, his isolation persists as a disabled musician and is still unable to play live. Instead the album is his route back into the world, sharing his unique blend of lofi indie. He also now presents Dis, a monthly radio show playing two hours of disabled artists on Unmade Radio. Songs such as Day In/Day Out reveal the day to day of his life with Fibromyalgia and M.E., with the chorus including the line “I made plans but my body made other plans” and album opener Part A muses “I just want a part to feel myself again”. Just 6 months later, Ban Summers returned with Drifting, a scuzzy yet dreamy new single, and a new album finished, to be released soon.
