No Mind No Money

Biography

In September 2016, Beach Baby released their critically acclaimed debut album, No Mind No Money. Wistfully documenting mid-20’s malaise, and splicing the post-punk stylings of 80’s indie with the dreamy organ sounds of Beach House, the record did well. The band enjoyed all the early hallmarks of success. They had firm radio support from the likes of Lauren Laverne and Annie Mac. They joined the multi-million streams club on Spotify. They toured the UK and USA extensively. They played a sold-out homecoming show at the Scala. They signed their records and t-shirts for teenagers.
But by the start of 2017, things had…changed. There really was no money. And whilst the first album had been recorded over an intensive two-month period in a cushy studio in East London, if Beach Baby wanted to make more music, they were going to have to do it differently.
Lovin’ Feeling is the first song to emerge from a long period of hibernation. Conceived in ‘The Lodge’ (a shed at the bottom of drummer Shep Hodgson’s garden), it’s a characteristically sad-eyed ode to romantic disaffection - but it also makes you want to party. Featuring a deliriously catchy sax riff, a smattering of congas, and a sound that is more than a little 70’s, it’s the beginning of the next chapter and a new sound— and it marks the creation of a weirdly wonderful, surreally subterranean world. But more on that later…
