As far back as he can remember, his father told him stories of his paternal grandfather playing the guitar and harmonica. His father carried on the family love of music as a hired DJ at well-known night clubs and events throughout Oakland and San Francisco Bay area. Growing up, he was exposed to old school, juke joint, blues, jazz, pop, R&B and hip-hop by his mother and father in the home setting. Inspired by these things, he became involved with the Farm Boyz at age 15. One member of this group was Keak Da Sneak, his first cousin.
