Biography

Australian producer Kloke's discography encompasses several forms of bass music, from garage and abstract house to atmospheric jungle. He first surfaced with several dubstep tracks during the late 2000s, then went in a more experimental direction with releases on Styles Upon Styles and Sub Squared. He switched to jungle around 2018 and became highly prolific, frequently collaborating with Tim Reaper and issuing solo EPs like 2022's Cosmik Connection, Vol. 2. Several high-profile releases appeared in 2024, including On Rhythm and the Reaper collaboration In Full Effect. Melbourne-based Andy Donnelly made his debut as Kloke with the 2008 dubstep EP Suspended Animation, on Entrada Recordings. Other releases followed as his sound moved closer to house, garage, and experimental techno. The EP Circuit Theory was issued by Granholme in 2012, marking Kloke's first vinyl release. He attended the Red Bull Music Academy in New York in 2013, and made an appearance on the event's compilation, collaborating with Smax. Sea Levels was released by Styles Upon Styles in 2014, and the harder, more experimental First Light appeared on Sub Squared. P.H.O.N.E., featuring a remix by Hieroglyphic Being, was issued by Styles Upon Styles the following year. Donnelly then took some time off from releasing music as Kloke to produce experimental ambient and electro as Colours of Infinity. Kloke changed gears and began focusing on jungle, starting with a single on Coco Bryce's Diamond Life imprint in 2018. Big Trouble followed on Fresh 86 in 2019, and Kloke's first collaboration with Tim Reaper, Tunnelvision, appeared on TempoCore in 2021. An EP on Reaper's Future Retro London arrived in 2022, and the two additionally released a single on !K7; in between, Kloke issued the double EP Anemoia (Fresh 86) and Cosmik Connection, Vol. 2 (Unknown to the Unknown). In 2023, Dark Knight appeared on Run It Red, and two singles with Reaper were issued by Future Retro London. Kloke's On Rhythm, issued in early 2024, was FRL's first full-length release. The producer kept up his prolific pace with releases such as the EP Mindgame 3 (Mindgames) and the cassette The Cosmik Connection: Lost Tape (Unknown to the Unknown). He also collaborated with Reaper for In Full Effect, Hyperdub's first-ever jungle release. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
