Biography

b. 4 July 1965, Chicago, Illinois, USA. Born into a musical household, Lane was first influenced by his father, guitarist and singer Jimmy Rogers. Friends of his father’s whom he came to know and admire included Howlin’ Wolf, Albert King, Willie Mabon, Little Walter and Muddy Waters. He began playing his father’s guitar at the age of eight, but drifted from music for a while, spending time in the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army. In 1983 and now back home, he again took up the guitar and began honing his skills, meanwhile holding down a day job in the construction industry. In 1987 he joined his father’s band, playing lead guitar, concurrently working with his own group, the Hurricanes, which later changed its name to Blue Train Running. In the early 90s Lane took his group to Europe, playing on television in the UK. He also recorded with his father’s band, proving to be as comfortable as sideman as he is as leader. Although leaning strongly towards contemporary rock, Lane’s love for the blues gleams through his work. The musicians with whom Lane has worked and sometimes recorded reflect this dual musical heritage: his father, Eric Clapton, David ‘Honeyboy’ Edwards, Lowell Fulson, Mick Jagger, B.B. King, Sam Lay, Taj Mahal, Van Morrison, Jimmie Lee Robinson, Double Trouble and Hubert Sumlin.
