Biography

Renato Cadel is an Italian baritone, lutenist and gregorianist. He graduated cum laude from the Conservatory of Pavia with a degree in Lute (with M. Lonardi) and holds a degree in Singing from the Conservatory of Italian Switzerland (with L. Castellani). He studied Renaissance Polyphony at the Civic School of Milan and Gregorian Chant at A.I.S.C.Gre. He completed a degree in Philosophy cum laude at the University of Pavia. He has collaborated with various ensembles, including Accademia Bizantina (O. Dantone), Accademia d’Arcadia (A. Rossi Lürig), Coro Costanzo Porta (A. Greco), Coro e Orchestra Ghislieri (G. Prandi), Vox Àltera (M. Pascucci). He has performed under the direction of A. Bernardini, A. De Marchi, A. Florio, N. McGegan, T. Koopman and F.M. Sardelli. He has given world-premiere performances of works by C. Boccadoro, A. Donati, F. Hoch, F. Perotti and V. Zago. He is conductor of Schola Gregoriana Ghislieri, a male vocal ensemble devoted to the Baroque tradition of Gregorian Chant. He is member of Quartetto di Liuti da Milano, an ensemble dedicated to a repertoire of early music for plucked string instrument. He has performed at important festivals and concert halls, such as Cantar di Pietre, Festival d’Ambronay, Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, MAfestival, Milano Arte Musica, Festival Oude Muziek, Sala Cecília Meireles (Rio de Janeiro). He has recorded for Amadeus, Arcana, Brilliant, Glossa, Sony and Tactus. He teaches Gregorian Chant at the Conservatory of Milan.
