Hughie is a composer, arranger, producer and musical director based in Margate. This November sees his second release; a collection of new arrangements of classic Christmas songs, and two originals inspired by the colder months. Hughie’s unique vocal arrangements are showcased beautifully in this celebration of the festive period. Embracing both his skill as a contemporary classical composer and his experience as a songwriter under the moniker JAKL, these choral arrangements sit at the intersection of these genres, offering ethereal and captivating new versions of well-known Christmas tunes. Four of the pieces are performed by the talented singers of the Institute Collective choir (founded and directed by Hughie), whilst The Flight features JAKL’s voice layered up, resulting in a heartfelt male choir effect. Hughie’s recent work includes vocal direction on the latest season of HBO’s ‘True Detective’, including the Emmy-nominated song ‘No Use’, and a choral arrangement of Billie Eilish’s ‘when the party’s over’ for WWF’s global 2023 campaign, for which he received a Music & Sound Award nomination. From his Margate-based studio, he directs the professional vocal ensemble Institute Collective and community choir The Social Singing Choir.
