The Academic Choir of Gdansk University of Technology, founded in 1965, performs mainly a cappella sacred music and oratorios from various styles and eras. The choir performs extensively at home and abroad and participates with great success in many competitions and choral festivals. The conductor of the choir continuously since 1992 is Prof. Mariusz Mróz. The core of the ensemble consists of students and graduates of Gdańsk University of Technology. The choir operates with an open formula, accepting musically talented young people every year. A chorister's career often ends with the thesis defense, hence the ensemble is subject to constant transformation. The successes achieved by the ensemble in such conditions confirm not only its good vocal condition, which has been taken care of by the choir's tutors (Beata Koska 1996-2006, Anna Fabrello 2006-2009, Magdalena Lewandowska - since 2009), but also testify to the great diligence and genuine love of choral singing both by the conductor and the choristers themselves. The first attempts to establish a choral formation at Gdańsk University of Technology date back to 1958, and are associated with Leon and Ireneusz Łukaszewski. The choir's artistic management has been carried out successively by the following conductors: Andrzej Lewandowski (1965-1980), Jan Łukaszewski (1980-1992). Since October 1992 the ensemble has been led by Mariusz Mróz, a graduate of the Faculty of Choral Conducting at the Academy of Music in Gdańsk.
