Biography

Music is the language of emotion. Many artists struggle to communicate, connect and find their style. But then there are artists who submerge themselves in their musical expression because it is the only way to make their voices heard. Lawd P is such an artist. With his latest mixtape OhhhLawd (a follow up to 2012’s Black Friday), Lawd P gives listeners and critics a lyrical sample of what his authenticity can bring to an industry in need of more fearless originality. The pre-gentrified, tough streets of Brooklyn molded Lawd P into a prolific and socially aware rapper, songwriter and composer. Drawing on influences from New York’s finest (Nas, Jay Z and Biggie) to the classic Soul artists they’ve sampled (Ron Ayers, Curtis Mayfield and Al Green), Lawd P taps into the elements of these music legends to create his own unique sound. “As an artist I always feel that I should paint the perfect picture that people of various backgrounds can connect with through my music,” explains Lawd P. Being the youngest of six, he lives for the words of Malcolm X, “Early in life I had learned that if you want something, you had better make some noise.”
