Biography

Performer rich in personality, Silvia Chiesa is the artist who has most contributed to broadening cello’s horizons. She has re-launched the twentieth century repertoire and inspired the production of new works for her instrument by performing them on prestigious international stages. She has created the “Twentieth Century Italian Trilogy” (Sony Classical), which for the first time gathers together in three CDs the cello concertos by Rota, Casella, Respighi, Pizzetti, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Gian Francesco and Riccardo Malipiero. With her, the RAI National Symphony Orchestra and the conductors Rovaris and Caldi. Regularly invited as a soloist by the most representative Italian and foreign orchestras with conductors such as Angelico, Angius, Benedetti Michelangeli, Bisanti, Gatti, Rustioni, Shelley, she is dedicatee of pieces for cello and orchestra by Corghi and D'Amico, and is chosen by composers such as Shohat, Campogrande, Clementi, Dall'Ongaro, Maxwell Davies, Sollima, Cascioli and Fedele for the first performances of their works. With the pianist Maurizio Baglini she has a duo that has performed over 250 concerts and recorded CDs with the Sonatas by Schubert, Brahms and Rachmaninov. She has also recorded the Quintet op. 163 by Schubert with La Scala String Quartet, the cello concertos by Haydn with Camerata Ducale and, in the world premiere, "... tra la carne e il cielo" by Corghi with the Turin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Ceccherini (Decca).
