Biography

Honest John Plain & Casino Steel renewed their partnership in punk supergroup THE LAST ROCK'N’ROLL BAND, playing Ramones-influenced rock’n’roll with a hint of Johnny Cash! The band’s self titled debut album was released in Norway & France autumn 2007. Casino Steel had been in the influential Hollywood Brats, who formed in London in 1972 around the songwriting partnership of Steel and Andrew Matheson and later joined legendary UK punk band London SS. Steel & Plain went on to form The Boys with Matt Dangerfield. The Boys were amongst the first wave of the UK punk explosion in the mid 1970’s and became the first UK punk band to sign an album deal in January 1977. Highly regarded by the music press and their contemporaries, their pop approach and use of harmonies led to their description as ‘The Beatles of Punk’, with their debut album entering the UK charts in September 1977. Steel left The Boys in 1980 to have considerable success with Gary Holton and as Holton/Steel. Honest John Plain went on to form the Crybabys with Darrell Bath & Robbie Rushton and they were voted “Best New Band of 1991” by the readers of Kerrang Magazine. Mat Sargent, who has played with Sham 69 & Chelsea, joined Rushton in Honest John Plain & The Amigos. Petter Baarli worked with Steel on numerous occasions over the years, but is best known as the guitarist in The Backstreet Girls.
