Biography

Bankrupt from Budapest, Hungary have been around for over 2 decades, and were featured on 4 Cleopatra Records compilation albums and on Spotify's official New Punk Tracks playlist. They played over 400 gigs in 9 countries and supported artists like the Damned, the Toy Dolls, Marky Ramone and Shonen Knife. Their break-through sixth album, Illiberal Holiday was released in June 2023, followed by the Blacklist EP in Nov 2024. (As always, both in Hungarian and English versions.) The band's hilariously scathing criticism of Hungary's illiberal regime displayed by a slew of viral music videos has already earned them over 2 million views on YouTube in just 2 years. Despite being one of the most popular underground bands in the country, they are virtually banned from playing festivals, hence the title of their latest EP, Blacklist. The Illiberal Holiday album features the song The Plane to Toronto, written in 2021 in support of their former singer Michael innocently imprisoned in China. The song received news coverage both in Canada and Hungary, contributing to a campaign led by Michael's ex-wife Vina, which finally achieved his liberation. http://bankrupt.hu/
