Martin Smidt is a Norwegian composer and drummer. He has composed theatre soundtracks for numerous productions, and performs with ensembles like Trilobitt, Dadafon, Bárut and Billuca ensemble. He is always looking for an intuitive blend of genres, innovative soundscapes, intriguing melodies and grooves, cooperating with some of Norway´s finest musicians. His latest band – Trilobitt – will publish their debut album in 2020 - look out! Martin Smidt founded the pop/jazz/world band Dadafon, with Kristin Asbjørnsen in front. The Dadafon album Visitor won the Alarm Award 2003 (Jazz Record of the year). Bárut with the Sami artist Inga Juuso performed a blend of Sami yoik and blues. The Barut album Bálggis, produced by Frode Fjellheim, won the Norwegian Grammy Award 2011 (Open Class). Since 2014 Barut performs world music in a broader sense, with Hildegunn Øiseth in front. In the chamber music of Billuca ensemble classical music is reinterpreted on the albums For Beggars and Kings and Wildflower Tales, whereas the album Sanger Fra En Ferdskriver consists of original compositions by Martin Smidt. SAMME SLAG is the theatre music collaborative project of Sissel Vera Pettersen and Martin Smidt. The more than 25 different theatre music productions were commissioned by theatres like Cirka Teater, Oslo Nye Teater, Riksteatret, Petrusjka Teater, Dekkoart, Teater Ibsen, Turneteatret i Trøndelag and Trøndelag Teater.
