Bente Kahan has worked as a stage and concert artist since 1981. She was born in Oslo (1958), and lives today in Wroclaw, Poland. Bente started her career as an actress performing in theatres in Israel and Norway, followed by international appearances with monodramas co-authored with the Norwegian stage director Ellen Foyn Bruun. In recent years, she often tours alone with her guitar, but also co-works with many musicians, to mention recently collaborations with the NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra, Ronen Nissan (arr./guitar), Adam Skrzypek (double bass). and Marco Valabrega (violin/viola). For years, she performed with the two Polish musicians Dariusz Świnoga (accordion/piano) and Miroslaw Kużniak (violin) ,had many concert tours with the Dutch klezmer band Di Gojim, Stockholm Klezmer Band "Sabbath Hele Veckan" and Gjertrud's Gypsy Orchestra (Norway). Bente Kahan has produced numerous albums with Yiddish songs as well as albums with poetry set to music by herself. Since 2005, she has been leading a Center for Culture and Education in Wroclaw’s White Stork Synagogue. The historic building with additional attached heritage sites, has been restored by the Bente Kahan Foundation and is today an important landmark in the city. Bente Kahan is an “Honorary Citizen of Wroclaw”, and has received many prestigious awards for her work from Norway, Germany and Poland .
