Luiz André Barroso was born in Rio de Janeiro and started playing the acoustic guitar at such a young age that he doesn't recall life before it. Despite the early start, his music career experienced a thirty-year detour when he moved to California to pursue a PhD in Computer Science and a subsequent career as an engineer and executive in Silicon Valley. He learned early Brazilian Sambas and Bossas from his father but had no formal music education until he started studying jazz guitar with Scott Sorkin in 2015.
