Rex Opara Jr., aka Raldie Young, is a Lagos-based artist who blends music, design, and video. Deeply personal and experimental, his music defies genres, from early pop to a current mix of R&B, Afrobeat, and hyperpop. Inspired by artists like Janelle Monae and his Igbo-Ibibio heritage, Raldie tackles themes of identity, sexuality, and societal issues with honesty. His music ranges from introspective demos ("Songs From My Bedroom") to dark humor ("Protein Junkie") to anthems of self-acceptance ("UNCOOL") and the celebration of freedom ("BAHN+"). His musical talents are also evident in the production of YĆ©la's sophomore album "Existence Resistance". Earning prestigious awards such as the Goethe Talents Scholarship as well as performing at the Pop-Kultur music festival solidify his rising star status. His latest EP, "In the meantime..., Pt. 1" explores self-discovery ("Better"), past relationships ("Loverman"), raw desire ("Twin Kai"), and long-distance love ("weekend motiv (LDR, Pt. 2)"). This project acts as a bridge to his upcoming full-length debut album, hinting at a bright future for this genre-bending artist.
