Hailing from Alexandria, Louisiana, Afro Sensei has been putting his own idiosyncratic spin on electronic music since the release of his debut EP Bougie Beats in 2014. 2016's deep house-influenced After Hours came next, followed by the trap electronic style of 2018's Let The Beat Breathe. Sensei's second album The Joy Fantastique was released in 2019. Equal parts dance, R&B and pop, the album's lyrics focused on the ups and downs of love. Released in the fall of 2021, Sensei's third album B.G.C., explored themes of LGBT pride ("Love Takeover," "Supercaliswagalistic") and loss, both romantic ("Little Waves," "Elephant") and platonic ("Full Circle," a tribute to a friend lost to Covid). B.G.C. spawned six singles and more than half a dozen remixes. One remix, a house version of "Love Takeover," has racked up more than 20,000 streams. B.G.C. Remixed, a collection of singles remixed by Afro Sensei himself as well as artists Zetroc and Decycle, is out now. Afro Sensei is also the host of The Afro Sensei Show, a biweekly live show featuring music videos and interviews with LGBTQ artists.
