Alexander Abreu Manresa is a singer, songwriter, arranger and trumpet player born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, on September 6, 1976. He is one of the most renowned modern Cuban musicians having been active on the island's musical scene since he graduated from Havana's prestigious Escuela Nacional de Arte (National Art School) in 1994. His musical career has seen a fascinating musical fusion of salsa, jazz, funk and afro-Cuban together with his expressive, poetic lyrics about Cuba and the Cuban people. Having become a mainstay of the Cuban musical scene throughout the 90s and 00s, playing with some of the greatest timba bands from those decades, in 2008 he decided to create his own group - Havana D’Primera - and took on singing duties for the first time. The band, made up of some of the top musical talents from the island, have gone on to find international success thanks to standout singles such as Pasaporte, Me Dicen Cuba and Tres Días, whilst their energetic live shows have seen them sell out venues all over the world.
