“Legends don’t play the game, they change the game.” The living legend alternatively known as Dut Garang, rejects the world for what it is and invites you into the soundscapes of Sadboy. Born in Sudan, the now Australian based creative lives in the western suburbs of Melbourne. At just 23, Dut has lived plenty of lives. Growing up in a cramped household, struggling to make friends at school, and dealing with challenges of living with a disability, some days felt as if it were GAME-OVER. However, everything changed when a pure box of imagination popped into his life: A PS1! Wielding the might of his controller, he took power over his surroundings, and ventured past the loading screen of life and into his own Sadboy creations. Immortalised through comic illustrations and musical creations, Sadboy is the creative identity of Dut. Influenced by the worlds of anime and electronic pop music, Sadboy’s moody-pop melodies, lofi-beats and dreamy lyrics will transport you into a realm of heroes, villains and legends. Dut makes music in his bedroom, where he develops beats on his laptop with Ableton and collaborates with his support worker Cassie to write the lyrics & melodies. Dut expands upon this musical landscape, by constructing a visual world all within his stories and characters.
