Ethereal and intimate songs about the power of nature and human connection - Astra Forward is a SE London alt-folk/experiemental singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and composer exploring themes of grief, ritual, mysticism and impermanence. Her most recent EP ‘Dawn/Dusk’ was recorded in East Iceland following a month-long residency there with a band, drawing inspiration from the natural landscapes. Her work has been described as ‘bewitching…magically hypnotic’ (OSR) while her new single ‘A Dream on the 17th Floor’ features on Oscar Lowe’s film ‘Wormford’. Astra Forward will perform live with a band at the Finsbury in London on Sunday Nov 3rd. She performs a one off completely acoustic show at Nunhead Cemetery chapel on 14th September, featuring vocal collaboration from friends and open to audience improvisation. The event features original songs, free improvisation as well as her ambient, field recording and lyric work in the form of sound installation in this historic ritual space. Astra Forward has written with Erland Cooper on the title track of his 2019 album ‘Sule Skerry’. She has performed extensively throughout Europe and the UK as a solo artist, and as keyboardist/singer with Diagrams 8-piece band (Sam Genders/Tunng), The Robot Heart and Welfare, supporting St. Vincent, Gomez, Athlete and Steve Mason among others. She was vocalist & 1/4 of SE London experimental improv band, Pinna.
