After several years in LA fronting bands of his own, and cliched journey with alcoholism, Bates decided to take a break from the industry and started making music under the name Big Black Delta. This was at a time when UFOs were still a stoner campside conversation killer. The black triangles in the sky are the number one reported type of sightings. It also fits with his obsession with sacred geometry. "Making music for people while they figure out their own answers to things. Or not. I'm not your dad.” In his upcoming 5th self-produced album 'ADONAI', Bates says he channeled most of it. "I can't explain in words what that means, but its intention is that of service. I included higher beings, so to say. It's the most ancient greeting I could find.” In typical fashion, the record swings in styles. Yet, it is his most precise work to date. "The lyrics aren't supposed to change the world, as it's doing that on it's own just fine. I'm just speaking to you as if I was in the room.” When asked what is different about this LP, his response was refreshing: "Does it matter if it brings someone joy?" Jonathan is hoping whoever listens to this new collection of songs will find use for them in their life. "We're going to be OK”
