Born Félix Castro Rodríguez II in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and currently based in Charlotte, NC, Fénix Castro has no issue with letting the political seep into his writing while simultaneously weaving a story about what he loves or mourns. Having been born in a colony and survived the conditions it implies, the welcomes or farewells of a loved one, assuming the human condition from its affirmations and contradictions, among others, are some of the approaches that Fénix proposes, whether on a beat by Cardejez or Lu Tapes (among many others) or even to the melody of a bolero. From a wide range of influences such as Welmo, Zack De La Rocha, Dead Prez, Silvio Rodríguez, Leonard Cohen , Vico C, and others, Fénix has released several singles through the independent route, such as "La Candela" in collaboration with beatmaker Coo-Kee for the long-running collection Eterno presents: HipHop Boricua, "Echar el Resto" alongside the energetic wordsmith & Puerto Rican MC MalaCara, and the dark and emotive "Bolero de esperanza”. Fénix also had the opportunity to create an album in collaboration with Arizona rapper Ohpenmiind titled "KOKEDAMA" (2022) where both rappers address socioeconomic inequality, justice for immigrants, Latino empowerment, and hope. With music being his passion since childhood, Fénix has participated in several projects, but the main one: rapcore duo Yuca Brava. This duo is composed of Fénix and ANGLADA (Carlos R Anglada), drummer, poet, beatmaker, and producer.
