Voga is the creation of contemporary classical pianist and producer Owen Vaga. Improvised melodies, textural ambience and looping patterns mark his work, seeking sounds that are both calming and restless. He currently writes from his Toronto studio. Static Motion (2019) released as Voga's debut album. Expanding upon a series of singles and EPs, it is themed around contrasts and duality; featuring felted piano, strings, field recordings and electronics. The cyclical nature of his music offers a gateway for thought and trance. Following up, Voga released Masquerade (2020), a piano and ambience work centred around identity and transformation. The album recalls romantic era character pieces and musical portraiture. Masquerade is divided into defined acts, framed as a performance within a performance. It is ultimately an exploration of character and authenticity. Though Voga enjoys releasing as an independent artist, he is a frequent collaborator with other labels and artists. Those projects include the release of his EP Transient with New York label Sonder House, as well as ongoing collaborations with artists Alaskan Tapes and Bedroom.
