Biography

It's been said that old rockers never die. But in many cases they do become less angry or perhaps even conservative in their music. Mark Small is one such musician. His career as a guitarist began in the rock & roll arena, an interest sparked by the Beatles. He enjoyed moderate success but as he matured, he gravitated toward classical guitar and his interests remain in this genre today. He has performed a range of classical works from traditional through inspirational, has worked both as a solo guitarist and in collaboration with others, including with Jenny Oaks Baker on her album Songs My Mother Taught Me. He also has performed as one-half of the Small-Torres Guitar Duo with Robert Torres. Small studied music at the New England Conservatory of Music and California State University, Fullerton, respectively. He is a professor at the Berklee College of Music, where he also has also served as the editor of Berklee Today. He also lends his pen to Guitar Player and Acoustic Guitar magazines. ~ Dacia A.
